When I press the on/off button, the thermometer reads 188.8 LCD display screen. Then the MediChoice Digital Thermometer will display the last reading taken. Next, the thermometer will recalibrate automatically and will display 97.7 degrees for approximately one second. When you see the "Lo" display flash, you are ready to take a temperature with the MediChoice Digital Thermometer.

You can use this thermometer both orally, rectally or axillary, meaning under the tongue, rectally, or under the arm pit. I used this thermometer under the arm pit of my infant grand daughter, and it took about about a minute to register an accurate temperature. When it got close to the normal reading, the display started to change much more slowly, and it gave a very soft beeping sound to let me know the temperature was complete. The pamphlet states that an oral reading takes 90 seconds, rectal takes 60 seconds, and axillary takes 3 minutes. I did not wait any where near three minutes and I received an accurate temperature reading.

Because I took an armpit temperature, I had to add one degree to the final reading to calculate her actual temperature. Axillary readings are one degree lower than oral readings. Likewise, rectal temperatures are one degree higher than an oral reading.

The MediChoice Digital Thermometer takes a silver oxide AG3 type LR41 Alkaline battery, or a size 1.55 VDC button battery. Replacing the battery is as easy as sliding the battery cap outward, and the unit will tell you when the battery needs to be replaced when you see a solid black rectangle on the display screen. The only tool you will need to replace the battery is a small Phillips-head screwdriver, like the kind you would use to repair eyeglasses.

The MediChoice Digital Thermometer measures 12.5 cm by 1.9 cm by 1.1 cm, so it fits easily into a purse or diaper bag. The battery life is a generous and impressive 200 hours of continuous use! The unit will automatically turn itself off in a ten minute time frame. This MediChoice Digital Thermometer is water resistant, and can be cleaned by using a cloth moistened with alcohol.
